Business Breakfast Briefing: The Tallaght Strategy - Two Decades On took place in February 2006 in the Plaza Hotel, Tallaght
Two decades ago, the then Fine Gael leader, Alan Dukes, gave an address to the then Tallaght Chamber of Commerce where he outlined that as long as the minority Government of Charles Haughey followed a responsible economic path, his party would not oppose them. The speech became known as the Tallaght Strategy and had profound implications for Irish politics and economic policy. At this breakfast briefing, Alan Dukes returned to reflect on how Ireland and indeed South Dublin has changed since that time and on the impact of the Tallaght Strategy speech and its relevance for current Irish politics and economics.

An economist by profession, Alan Dukes served as a Kildare TD from 1981 until 2002 and had the distinction of being appointed a Cabinet Minister (for Agriculture) on his first day in the Dail. He subsequently served as Minister for Finance and Justice and then as Fine Gael leader from 1987 to 1990. From 1996 to 1997, he was Minister for Energy, Transport and Communications. He is currently Director of the Institute of European Affairs.
